Great idea and we'll see how the community interprets its use moving forward. I'd like to share another idea from an old journalist and PR guy. Perhaps this complements MicroPR or interacts with it in some way, perhaps it's just nutty, but what the hell, I feel like I'm among friends.

There are essentially 3 components of most stories, 1) idea, theme, plot 2) position of one side, usually two, and 3) quantification, usually using numbers to show how it impacts readers, segment, country, world etc.

About 15 years ago I was messing around with the idea of a database structured in this manner, so when a journalist needed a statistic, or a quote, they can get it. So let's take an issue, Nursing home care for baby boomers. (careful I may resemble that remark). Journalist can search this database - what percentage of boomers are in nursing homes? - and get the answer with attribution, - 7% of boomers are in nursing homes according to study from (then site the organization that conducted the study, Only for the purposes of this example let's create a name United Boomers for Solutions - In addition, the United Boomer Executive Director might have a quote or two about the study, maybe a audio clip, (you see where I'm going with this)

Moreover they can also have story ideas, complete with potential people to interview, examples. etc.

Now let's say this database to start with was just focused on a major issue - for example Healthcare, economic development, cancer research, China/US trade - OK pick or add to your favorites, but the point is for this to work, that one site would need to be comprehensive including most sides of an issue.

it could be self administered by the providing organization, using today's technologies, they would tag each piece of data. Perhaps the big newswires offer something like this, but I don't see it. And surely they charge a boatload.

This is a 15 year old idea that I'm thinking may well be a good one given today's technologies and ability to crowd source and attract individuals who are interested in very specific topics.

your call either a) no keep it under wraps for another 15 years , b) it's good, half baked, but good, c) insert your comment here
